Here is the latest info on the Centaurs (D and F Troop) 2011 Reunion. This is the details regarding dates, events, hotel rooms, etc. that you will want to review before contacting Marvin Runyon or Fred Reese.

Well guys and girls of D/F Troop, 3rd Squadron 4th Cavalry here it comes. The itinerary for our reunion on the 9th, 10th, and 11th of November in Dayton, Ohio. I have added the activity for the 12th for those wanting to attend a parade before leaving.

We will be staying at the Hope Hotel, Building #823, Area A, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio 45433. The hotel's phone number is (937) 879.2696 ext. 501. Their internet site can be found by doing a Copy & Paste of their web address: http://www.hopehotel.com/home.php. The person I have been communicating with at the hotel is Matthew A Levalley, Assistant General Manager, MATTLEVALLEY@HOPEHOTEL.COM. Ask for rooms being held for the 3rd Squadron 4th Cavalry. Our 22 rooms include 11 rooms with queen beds, and 11 rooms with double beds for 9th, 10th and 11th. They are $70.00 plus tax. If you need a room for nights other then those it's on a space available bases. Rooms will be held until 9 Oct 2011. After that it will be on space available basis. Check-in is available beginning at 3:00pm and check-out must be done no later than 12:00am on your departure date. Reservations will be held until 6:00pm on your scheduled day of arrival. Call the hotel if you will be arriving later than 6:00pm.

Wednesday- November 9th:

After check-in please stop by the conference room, or called the study room, that is located on the 3rd floor next to the vending area. Stop by to let us know you have arrived and in general just shoot the bull and visit. There is a restaurant in the hotel for a meal or snack. At 7:00pm we will meet in the conference room to make plans for our activity during our next two days; i.e. transportation to and from the museum for anyone needing a ride, agree on the time we wish to leave for the museum, morning and evening, when we would like to have breakfast before leaving on the 12th. where our next reunion will be and who will be hosting it, what menu item you would like for dinner on the night of the 11th, etc. etc.  That and other items may come up, as in a general meeting. We also need to make sure we have an e-mail address, home address and phone number for all.

Thursday - November 10th:

After breakfast we should meet to travel to the Air Force Museum. The Museum is FREE and about 10 minutes away. This is a place everyone will enjoy. You can spend hours there and not see it all. They have a snack bar, a IMAX theater with movies of Air force fighter training and other films. We will need to return to the hotel in time to rest and get ready for the big night.

For those of you expecting to attend a dinner under the wings, I'm sorry; That has been changed to a reception. There were more wanting to attend than space would allow. In it's place, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, there will be a FREE reception for veterans and family. The reception is to pay tribute to Vietnam veterans and all who served, with special exhibits and activities for the whole family. The U.S. Air Force Band of Flight will be performing. There will be a military recognition ceremony plus appetizers and beverages. We can wear our Cavalry hats and jackets to show our unit pride.

Friday - November 11th:

At 11:00am, there is a Veterans Day Observances at the Dayton VA campus to pay tribute to Vietnam Veterans and other Veterans of conflict who served. That evening we will have our dinner at the Hope hotel. I do not as of now have a price but will get you this information asap.

Saturday - November 12th:

Day of departure, at 10:00am there will be an Operation Welcome Home parade to honor all veterans in the town of Fairborn, the military town next to Wright-Patterson. I have been told they know how to do a great parade. If you have the time to attend before getting on the road check it out.

General Information, Anyone arriving by air and needing a ride from the airport please contact me by email Marvin Runyon or telephone: (614) 868-1435. Terry Walker who lives in Dayton and was a door gunner with D Troop in 1966 has offered to help with rides to anyone from the airport. Between Terry and me we can get you to the hotel and back. TAKE CARE AND BE SAFE IN YOUR TRAVEL. See you at the re-union.

This reunion will be one for all to enjoy, if you have questions or suggestions to make it better, please contact me by the means noted above.

See the June 4, 2011 email from Fred Reese (below) which provides some information on the D/F Troop Centaurs reunion to be held during the Veterans Day weekend in Dayton, Ohio.

Here we go with this years planning for our annual Veteran’s Day reunion for D/F Troop.

First, let me explain why I’m sending this message out instead of Marvin Runyon. I am assisting him this year, only on the computer end of the planning. Marvin is the host and is solely putting together this one.

Some of you that will receive this letter have attended every reunion since it’s conception by KC Allcock, back in 2003. Some have been to some and some haven’t made one yet. It doesn’t matter! What does matter, is, that you all make this one if at all possible.

The reason you are all on this list is because you live within reach of Dayton, Ohio, which is where this reunion will be held. I do expect that I’ve missed some of the guys, so, please, if you know of someone that I’ve missed, send me their name and email address so I can get them added to the planning of this reunion.

It is somewhat important to know how many we have to plan for being there. These troop reunions are not like the Squadron reunions in the aspect that we do not pay a registration fee and we do not provide for tour buses and such. This is a come as you are and enjoy yourself type of reunion.

I will briefly hit the normal itinerary for you. We get there on November 9th and check into the hotel that Marvin has set up for us. We stay until the morning of November 12th when we check out after breakfast and head for home. Meanwhile, there will be things to do! The host, Marvin, has lined up some really good things this year! He will tell you all about it when he sends out his letter. Anyway, we also will have one semi formal dinner when all should attend and that is also our photo op.

The photos will be taken by each person that wishes to do so and the wives and waiters and/or bus boys or whomever we can coerce into holding the cameras.

So here’s the point of this letter! Please respond to Marvin Runyon, and myself, Fred Reese, with your intention to attend this years reunion. This will give us a count on how many, so include who’s coming with you, please. It will also give us a list of who to keep informed about the planning and what’s going on.

Please let us know as soon as possible!

Send your email to Marvin or Fred and note whether you plan on attending and if you are coming who (how many guests) you are bringing with you. We’d sure like to see all of you guys and more at this one!

Thanks,

 Fred
