GOODIE PACKS FOR ACTIVE DUTY D TROOP SOLDIERS

If you want to send gift packs to the Troops so they are received before Christmas please do so right away. For specific information on mailing packages to the Troops, check the USPS website:  http://about.usps.com/news/state-releases/ne/2009/ne_2009_1202.htm

The active duty Troopers in D Troop - 3/4 Cav are serving with the Squadron in Afghanistan. I have communicated with the D Troop Commander who advised us that the Troopers would really appreciate any gift packages that D Troop veterans might want to send to them. We (Centaurs veterans) aren't planning on doing a combined gifting process but each of us can send gift packs individually.

The Troop Commander informed me that he has three platoons located at three different locations and we can send the gift packs to the attention of the Platoon Sergeants at those locations. We don't want to post the Troop or the Platoon's addresses here but if you have any interest in sending a gift pack (or two or three) send me an email requesting one of the Platoon addresses (or all three) and I will send you the Platoon Sergeants names and APO addresses.

Some of the type of items identified by the Troop Commander that he believes will be most appreciated by the Troopers are: chapstick, foot powder, baby wipes, shave cream, deodorant, toothpaste, tooth brushes, granola bars, beef jerky, etc. In addition, each of us can probably recall a 'Care Package' we or a hootch mate might have gotten from home that contained something we really appreciated when we were young troopers (Except: No alcoholic beverages please, even though I recall Jim Moore getting six-packs of beer from home (Coors, maybe?). I seem to recall enjoying some hard candies, processed cheese/crackers, that type of thing. I also enjoyed receiving paperback books. Those books, regardless of origin, seemed to make their way around the Troop pretty quickly.

If any of you have some recent experience with sending gift packs to the troops in Iraq or Afghanistan please send me an email with your advice and I will get that posted on the website right away.

Send your emails to me, Charlie Johnson, or to the generic Webmaster email system.
